EXC!TE SNARE DRUM is a snare drum features ultra-realistic sound through physical modeling algorithms.

The algorithms are tuned by ear to resemble snare drums of different sizes, different tip hardness, rimshot sounds and adjustable snare rattle.

Actually this is a great LIVE snare plugin! I mean, for EDM drum-machine-style snares you would look into other synths and drum machines, but here we got a versatile tool for creating a realistic snaredrum/rimshot sound. For Reaper users: you can use it along with "JS: Audio To MIDI Drum Trigger" and "JS: MIDI Velocity Control" plugins, so you can use ANY audio source to trigger the snare sound. It will still lack some pitch options of a PRO version, but that's quite a great option to have anyways. Short transient sounds would work the best (like knocks, stick hits, or any other short strikes). I must warn you: most people (including myself) think that they know how a real snare sounds, but they are completely wrong. And they never heard a live snare itself, with no processing. Almost all snare sounds that we hear in modern music have been edited A LOT. Most likely, there were noise-gates, multiple compressors, EQs, reverbs and all kind of parallel processing involved. There is also a high chance that a snare in your favourite rock track has initially gone through some kind of audio-2MIDI trigger plugin to use a refined pre-made snare sound from a famous sound library. What I'm trying to say is that we start to forget how a REAL snare sound by itself, with no extra processing. So keep that in mind. Installation worked flawlessly on Win10, "augenblicklich" as Germans say. Just download, no registration, install and that's it. Ready to use in Reaper. At first I was a bit confused with GUI as I didn't realize what all that knobs and faders do. Glad Reaper has an option to turn off GUI, so I found a way to setup my snare properly there. Pretty lovely sounds from 3,58MB plugin I must say. Your WAV drum samples would take more space, and with EXC!TE SNARE DRUM you get a big variety of sounds. I'm pretty impressed. At first I wondered why there's no tuning in keys, but after trying all the knobs I realized that tuning is based on several parameters so it can't just be tuned as a standard synth. And that's a strong point - this snare sounds more natural way than any synth snare would. I've also been using "SnareBuzz" by Wavesfactory to make my snares more real, but looks like EXC!TE SNARE DRUM already has everything you need to generate the sound itself. Only downside I could think of - plugin is constantly using 2,8% of my old Intel i5 4690K, but that's relatively good for a modelling synth. Like some complicated presets on my Vacuum Pro (which is a 12 years old VSTi) can take up to 3,5% - so it only depends on amount of FX, oversampling, overall sound quality and optimization. It's relative. And also you won't be using 10 snares in one track anyways, would you? Of course, often it's more convinient to use pre-made samples and sample packs to make beats and drum patterns (it's just faster), but this plugin gives you an option to play and adjust your snare. And remember that if you use a standard sampler (even with velocity layering), your snare pitch/tone will usually not depend on velocity (for ranges compatibility). With this plugin you can find some extra flaws to your snare. I'd say it's not a plugin for everyday use, but it's really fun to work with.

This is actually a decent physically-modeled snare. I love the variance control, very useful for creating '''humanised' riffs and loops. A definite 4/5 in my book. To CHAIR developers, is it possible to have a knob or something to control the crunchiness of the sound? the only way I can control it is via increasing the membrane tension. Or is that how real snares sound when you alter the membrane tension? Thank you anyway.

Every developers want to make good plugins. Please don't demotivate new developers. Give genuine feedback and motivate them to make good plugins. Btw I was looking for this plugin so I am here.

VST only for me. Not worth it for a pretty basis snare sound. Sounds dated. Like buddy rich snare.

A physical modeling Snare plugin isn't meant to produce those flashy synthy snare sounds like future bass snares Man.

My DAWs can't read it so I'm presuming special CPU requirements like AVX for example? If so, you should put this in the description.

I agree with some of the comments below and would prefer to just have a .dll or .vst3 file and manually place it in the correct folder myself. Also seems a little high on CPU when running in my DAW. Having said that, the installer worked fine for me (I'm using Reaper DAW on a Windows OS). To me it's a very natural sounding snare. Love the sound and will definitely be using it.

Sounds very naturally, works fine! Opposite to a comment here, installation (under win10) worked flawlessly on my system.

Another day - another creepy *.exe-installer instead of VST-files/presets properly packed into zip. Some notes for the developer: 1. Windows10 marks your exe-file as suspicious, prohibiting the installment with its built-in smart screen 2. *.exe-installers are inconvenient for final users as hell, because nobody wants to install unknown files into the system. 3. It's a VST3 plugin (there info about it on your site, but not on this one), so after all the tortures with install I got VST3-file, which is still unsupported by most DAWs.

Having just had to have my computer wiped, after getting a trojan from an an installer file from a different site, I totally agree. That was despite scanning the installed with Defender before running. From now on I am sticking to dll files.

Vst3 exists since 2008. The official support for vst2 has ended already in 2013, which means, 9 years ago! Since then vst3 is standard and compatible with almost every contemporary DAW. I find it unfair, if you make a developer responsible, if you still use obviously outdated software, which is not even compatible with vst3.

I also need VST2, since my main DAW is as out-dated as I am, but unfortunately, there is absolutely no need to blame a developer to produce VST3 only, since for new developers which didn't anymore manage to aquire a VST2 license from Steinberg 2 years ago - when there was the last chance to do so!), there even is no legal way to publish VST2 plugins to the public. You just aren't allowed to do so without the required Steinberg license.

Many users actually struggle to put the VST and presets into the right place. An installer helps to ensure that they are indeed where they should be and will save us from a lot of support issues with not correctly installed plugins. We see no point in developing VST2 plugins in 2021, we can't support 32bit either. Because we're busy with adding Atari and Commodore versions ;) This software has no trackers, no calling home, no user analytics, no telemetry, no registration, no dongle, no copy protection, no nag-screens, no 3rd-party ads, no in-app purchases. We are a small company and we hope you will trust us here.

@DrakuLaura: You've given a 1/5 rating because the developer provides a .exe Installer instead of .dll or .vst3 files? That's just cruel.

You do realise that a *.dll is just as executable as a *.exe? Thinking that a *.dll is somehow 'safer' than a *.exe is folly.

@Max from CHAIR: A lot of times, developers aren't using installers they actually built, but tend to speak or think only about their software ( not the installer) when they express the safety of files. I see great variances on the VIRUS TOTAL website, where developers are using the same freeware installers, but some have no positives while others may have 3 or more using the same installer. On the other side of the coin; users need to keep in mind that DLL files are just as dangerous as an installer can be. Look at all the functionality you get from various vst's that have various things embedded in the file. I prefer the option of DLL files, but know it's still a crap shoot!
